This site is meant to introduce you to the Toronto that you do not see on postcards or calendars. There are communities in Toronto that do not receive recognition from the media, politicians or from people that do not live there. The Inner City has been established to introduce you to these neighbourhoods in and around Toronto and provide you with a perspective of the city that is more than the CN Tower and Yonge Street. The blog is changed everyday so be sure to check it out regularly.

Parkdale Pigeons

The free english classes sign at the top right of this building is a testimony to the residents who live in Parkdale. According to 2001 census data Polish, Tagalog(Philipino) and Vietnamese are the second, third and forth most popular home and mother-tongue languages after English. In 2001, almost 26% of the residents here moved to Canada between 1996 and 2001. Check out Pardale Statistics at http://www.toronto.ca/wards2000/pdf/wardprofiles_14.pdf {February 10th, 2006}

While we were venturing through Parkdale a bird lady threw food all over the sidewalk for the dozens of pigeons that apparently reside in this neighbourhood. We were a little too close for comfort but it made for a couple of decent shots. {February 10th, 2006}

They all-at-once took off down King Street West after they finished all the food she had left.{February 10th, 2006}
Once we had crossed the street she came back and consequently the birds came back too. Through all of this luckily none of these birds left their marks on us!{February 10th, 2006}
